“If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you’ll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don’t feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth.”*
Nevertheless here goes…
Nick Hazlewood was born in New Brighton, Merseyside. It was the late 1950s – times were hard, winters were long, food was scarce – and it wasn’t long before he’d hit the road. With barely six months on the clock, and the slaps of the midwife still smarting on his cheeks, he was an economic migrant, and heading south to Birmingham.
And yet, despite this early trauma, he has recovered sufficiently to carve out a career as a writer, designer, publicity and communications consultant and teacher. A documentary written and directed by Nick was broadcast on Aljazeera. Since November 2012 he has been Production and Information Editor for Chemical Watch.
After many expeditions to Latin America, and five years in Spain, he has settled in Bristol.
